Herman Van Rompuy-lecture
The Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies and Ceder are determined to take on the challenges of tomorrow and find solutions that will connect and empower our society. That is why we are proud to present the Herman Van Rompuy-lectures.
On these annual gatherings, renowned speakers are welcomed to the stage to inspire us to find the answers and solutions we needs.
This year our guest speaker was Christiana Figueres.
With the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015 the international community has taken an important step in countering climate change. As chief negotiator Christiana Figueres played a key role in these sensitive negotiation rounds and bears unique insight into the drafting process of this historical agreement. How did she turn the disappointing results of the climate summit in Copenhagen into indomitable optimism? And how did she manage to bridge different national interests? As Vice President of the Covenant of Mayors Figueres is currently also looking ahead in explaining what role local actors can play in implementing the Agreement and what they can do to achieve the climate goals.
